How to set up your Custom Domain Name to your Blogspot Blog

If you want to have your own personalized website name, also known as Domain Name, you need to purchase one.  Please visit: How to Purchase your Domain Name

After you've purchased and forwarded your domain name, you now need to set your domain to your Blogspot Blog.

(Remember, if you have any problems, please phone Go Daddy Customer Service and they will walk you through setting up your domain)

There are two main parts to this guide:

1. How to set up your GoDaddy domain's settings
2. How to set up your Blogger's settings.
   

How to set up your GoDaddy settings:

1. Log into GoDaddy and go to Domains, My Domains.
2. Click on the domain that you want to use for your blog.
3. Find the "Total DNS Control and MX Records" link and click it.
4. Under the "Total DNS Control Panel," locate "CNAMES(Aliases)."
5. Click on the pencil icon to edit it.
6. Set it to these settings exactly: "Enter an Alias Name: www. "Points to Host Name: ghs.google.com" If you don't know what TTL is, just leave it at 1 hour.
7. Hit OK.
8. Now we need to go back to the previous screen, the one where you found "Total DNS Control and MX Records," but this time find "Forwarding:" and click on the link below it.
9. You will get a "Forward and Mask Domains" section pop-up at the top. Click on the "Forwarding" tab.
10. Check the "enable forwarding" box, enter your blog's url (www.blog.blogspot.com) into the "Forward to:" box, and finally, click/check the "301 Moved Permanently" radio button.
11. Now press the "Masking" tab.
12. Check the "Enable masking" box. You can leave everything else blank for now.
13. Finally, hit OK.
14. You're done with part one, time for part two.

How to set up your Blogger settings:
1. Log into Blogger, go to "Dashboard," pick a blog, and click "Settings."
2. Under the "Settings" tab, click the "Publishing" tab.
3. Find this: "Switch to: • Custom Domain (Point your own registered domain name to your blog)," and click on "Custom Domain."
4. Under the orange text that says "Buy a domain for your blog," look for "Already own a domain? Switch to advanced settings." It's on the right side. Click "advanced settings."
5. For your domain, enter your godaddy domain in the input box. It should include both the www. and the .com. An example would look like this: "www.domain.com"
6. Enter the word verification code, hit "Save Settings," and you're done!

If you did everything correctly, your domain name will now lead to your blog. (This may take up to 24 hours to take effect)

Because you followed the above steps, you won't have to worry about the error on Blogger , "Blogs may not be hosted at naked domains." error.

This is how to fix the "Blogs that may not be hosted at naked domains." error:
1. Log into GoDaddy and go to Domains and My Domains.
2. Click on the domain that you want to use for your blog.
3. Find the "Total DNS Control and MX Records" link and click it.
4. Under the "Total DNS Control Panel," locate "A (Host)."
5. Click on the pencil icon to edit it.
6. Set it as these settings exactly: "Host Name: @" and; "Points To IP Address: 64.202.189.170" Again, leave the TTL at 1 hour.
7. Hit OK, and you're done.

You don't need to set yhup your Blogger settings to redirect "domain.com" to "www.domain.com," GoDaddy will do it for you automatically.

How to Create Your Own Personalized Website Address- How to purchase a Domain Name through GoDaddy

If you're interested in having your own Personalized Website Name, also called a Domain Name, then you need to purchase a DOMAIN.

There are many websites where you can purchase a domain name. For this example, I explain step-by-step how to Purchase your domain through http://www.godaddy.com/

I want to purchase a domain name for my Organo Gold website because the website address they gave me is http://aprilficek.organogold.com/na/biz/ . This is way too long for anyone to remember, thus I chose to purchase a new website address.

Whether your purshasing a domain name for a website or blog, its the same steps outlined below.

First I go to http://www.godaddy.com/
Click on Domains, it’s a green tab. A screen will pop up asking you to enter a domain name. Type in a name you want and see if it’s available. They will tell you if it is or isn’t. You can tweak the name like I did.

I wanted HealthyCoffee.com but when I typed it in, Go Daddy stated that it was already taken,unless I wanted to pay $15,000 for it. Ya right!

Then I tried AntiAgingCoffee.com and this was also taken. I added(s) at the end of coffee and voila, my new domain now is http://www.antiagingcoffees.com/. This works perfectly and only costs me $10.00/year.

Go daddy will give you suggestions to purchase alternative domains such as site, biz, net, org, and ca, but remember .com is the most common so, keep it simple and stay with that. All those other ones are really not needed unless you want to name brand yourself, but seriously, do you ever type in .net? Save your money.

To purchase your domain

1. Click on the Add button
2. Click register
3. Click on one to five years   (This dictates how much you want to pay now and for how long you want to keep your domain. Remember- If you chose one year, can renew every year.)
   

Don’t put in the nameservers, just dock the domain at Go Daddy and continue to the check out.

Put in your payment information and click to place your order

Once you’ve paid, you can:

1. Phone Go daddy customer Service at (480) 505-8877 to forward your domain to your website or blog
2. You can click on the domains tab, click on your new domain, then click forward.
3. Enter your original website address, in my case it would be http://aprilficek.organogold.com/na/biz/
4. Your DONE!

How to Create Meta Tags for each individual Blog Posts - Blogger Tips and Tricks

If you want to have a description and new title for each blogger post then you need to put in meta tags that tell Google this. Otherwise, you will find that every post has the same description.

To create your meta tags you First need to go the layout tab, then edit HTML. At the very top of your code, look for the Head section.

Copy my code below, put in your own appropriate key words, title, and decription meta tags.

Below is a cut and paste from my HTML Code. After lots of trial and error this code worked from me. The best advice is to copy your code, copy my code and view them side by side, see what you need to add then add it.

I put my keywords and description in red bolded letters so you can put your own keywords and descrition in there.  The blue bolded words are the code I used to create meta tags each individual blog post.
